Cabo Delgado, Mozambique
Since 2021, the PAG has conducted seven major rounds of stakeholder consultations in Cabo Delgado, prioritising direct engagement with conflict-affected communities, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), traditional leaders, women and youth groups, among others. The group has also engaged a diverse array of national and regional stakeholders – spanning government officials, private sector leaders, and civil society organizations – to identify and develop policy solutions that address the province's complex conflict challenges. A significant milestone in this work was the formalization of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM), through which the PAG provided strategic support for community engagement and communication initiatives. PAG members have also conducted extensive field research into the cross-border dynamics of the conflict in both Cabo Delgado and Southern Tanzania to ensure its interventions are informed by localised ethnic and socioeconomic nuances. Through these active partnerships, the PAG promotes non-military approaches to conflict resolution that holistically address the intersecting security, humanitarian, and governance challenges in the region.
Findings and policy recommendations arising from these interventions can be found in our publications section.
